What To Bring

  • Pack 
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Tent 
  • Water bottles (I prefer a total capacity of 3 liters)
  • Hiking poles
  • Headlamp with batteries
  • Water filtration system
  • First aid kit (I prefer to include: alcohol prep pads, bandages, hand warmers, emergency blanket, leukotape, KT tape)
  • Hiking boots or trail runners
  • Socks
  • Sun hat
  • Rain jacket
  • Down or synthetic jacket
  • Warm hat 
  • Shorts for hiking
  • T-shirt for hiking
  • Thermals or clothes for sleeping
  • Pack cover for placing over your pack if it rains and/or pack liner for the rain (can be an unscented compactor trash bag and/or weather-resistant stuff sacks)
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • SPF chapstick
  • Sunscreen
  • Electrolytes
  • Trowel
  • Baby wipes/toilet paper
  • Bear canister if required
  • Stove with fuel and lighter
  • Cup
  • Spork
  • Bowl (if needed for meals)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Leggings or pants for hiking in the cold (if applicable)
  • Rain pants (if applicable)
  • Bug spray (optional)
  • Bug head net (optional)
  • Backpacking pillow (optional)
  • Earplugs (optional)
  • Camp shoes (optional)
  • Warm gloves (if applicable)
  • Prescription medications (if applicable)

Food Considerations

  • Consider bringing 100 to 250 calories per hour that you'll be hiking for snacks. I prefer breakfast & lunch to be 750+ calories each and for dinner, I typically aim for 750 calories or more (often as much as possible to refuel). 
  • In addition to calories, also bring foods with protein, fat, and carbs to eat throughout each day.
