Join us on a women’s three-day, two-night basecamp backpacking trip in Rocky Mountain National Park! This trip is for women who want to spend time in the wilderness, get away from our phones and screens, and sleep under the open sky. We’ll set up a basecamp at Battle Mountain Campground and spend our second day hiking to one of the most famous lakes in the entire park—Chasm Lake.

Hiking Itinerary

In the weeks before your trip, your RMHC backpacking guide will reach out to help you get dialed in with gear and help you decide which food to bring, so you’re feeling ready and excited to hit the trail.

Day 1 (3 to 5 Miles): We’ll meet at the Longs Peak Trailhead at 5:30 am and begin our hike to Battle Mountain Campground, where we’ll set up basecamp for both nights. It’s about 3 miles to camp, with steady elevation gain. We'll cross some streams and walk under the aspens before getting to above treeline (yay!). Once we’re set up, we’ll take our time settling into camp and explore nearby trails. Dinner, dessert, and camp vibes to close out the day.

Day 2 (6 to 7 Miles): Oooo, today we’ll hike to Chasm Lake, one of my absolute favorite trails in all of Rocky Mountain National Park. It's 2 miles from our campsite to the lake, but it will most likely feel longer because we'll be above 11,000 feet and hiking uphill. There's some fun rocky sections of trail just before getting to the lake. Chasm Lake sits right below the sheer face of Longs Peak, and it’s the kind of place you just want to sit and stare at for hours. We’ll snack, relax, and take it all in before heading back to Battle Mountain for one more night at camp.

Day 3 (3+ Miles): We’ll start the morning slow—coffee, tea, whatever makes you happy—and then pack up camp. We might take a slight detour on the way out to check out some views, depending on how the group feels. It’s a mellow hike back to the Longs Peak Trailhead beneath the aspens, with plenty of time to savor the last miles before heading home.

A Note On Altitude

If you're from out of town, we recommend arriving in Denver a few days before your trip, as this backpacking trip is high altitude and will be mostly above 10,000+ and over 12,000 feet.
